pericardial cancer is the type of mesothelioma tumor which is related to the heart linings. pericardial cancer is originates in the heart linings. pericardial cancer is also develop due to the extreme exposure to asbestos. pericardial mesothelioma develops in the heart lining named as pericardium . pericardium has two layers. the inner layer is known as epicardium or visceral layer and the outer layer is known as parietal layer, heart sac or theca cordis. pericardial cancer can develop both the layer .
PERICARDIAL SYMPTOMS
1. it is very difficult to take breath
2. painful breathing
3. cough
4. fever
5.fatigue
6. shorting of the breathing
HOW IS PERICARDIAL MESOTHELIOMA DIAGNOSED
Pericardial mesothelioma is very rear type of disease and their symptoms also mimic the other type of mesothelioma cancer like pleural and peritoneal . it is very hard to diagnose the pericardial cancer. their is no certainty that the extreme exposure to asbestos is the main reason of pericardial cancer .
Asbestos fibers covers the membrane of the heart and the same time asbestos fibers also lodged over the linings of the lungs and abdomen. whole body become cancerous. due to the lodging of the asbestos the cancer cells develops and abnormal dividing of the cells starts and it develops tumor.These
changes in the membrane lead to the buildup of fluid between the
pericardial layers, which combined with the thickening of the layers,
puts pressure on the heart.
there are mainly two type of diagnosis
1. biopsy
2.imaging tests
BIOPSY
In this diagnosis method a surgeon remove the fluid or tissue from the pericardial linings and then diagnose the presence of pericardial mesothelioma.
IMAGING TESTS
In this diagnosis method a radioactive material named as radiogallium is injected to identify the cancerous cells . the patterns of the radioactivity shows the possibility of the cancer in different places.it is advanced detection method .
